Meliadine is the second contract awarded to PowerTrunk by Agnico Eagle to provide secure and reliable voice and data TETRA communications. The network comprises PowerTrunk-T TETRA infrastructure of four base stations for both outdoor and underground mining communications and an expected roll out of several hundred robust, IP67 rated STP9000 hand-portables for workers. This also includes SRG3900 mobiles with colour consoles for vehicle communication.

The equipment will have to withstand temperatures of -40ºC in the winter. The Meliadine advanced-stage gold project in Nunavut Territory, in northern Canada, is Agnico Eagle’s second major project in Canada’s Low Arctic after the Meadowbank mine. Meliadine is the Agnico Eagle’s largest development project based on reserves and resources.

“Following a successful first phase deployment at the Meadowbank Gold Mine, we are happy to continue working with PowerTrunk,” said Philip Quessy, Eng, general IT supervisor AEM. “We selected TETRA again because it provides us with advanced features within a reliable and proven platform that meets our user requirements.”

“Since entering the North American market in 2012, TETRA continues to challenge the functionalities which customers should expect in their Land Mobile Radio solutions,” said David Torres, PowerTrunk’s SVP of Sales. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Agnico Eagle and to introducing new customers to TETRA.”
