New applications helping to recognise suspects and convict criminals will feature on the Tactilon Dabat TETRA radio from Airbus Defence and Space in 2017 after a collaboration with Facewatch, a company providing multi-agency and governmental intelligence about criminals on an independent web-based platform.

The Facewatch mobile solution will allow police officers on the move and security personnel in enterprises to share complex information, verify suspects with given picture databases in real time and securely exchange photos and videos. The Tactilon Dabat is a TETRA handheld radio with camera and a rugged smartphone in one device. It allows secure communication in standard TETRA networks and in an LTE environment.

End-users can utilise watchlists, facial recognition tools and an automatic number plate recognition system. Facewatch has been collaborating with the police in the UK and private businesses.

“This method of investigation is unique, because Facewatch apps on the Tactilon Dabat enhance crime analyses and optimise the collaboration among police officers and various security services,” explains Nick Koiza, Facewatch's global head of Applications.

The integration of third party applications into TETRA networks has been possible due to Airbus Defence and Space’s TETRA Wireless Solution Partner (TWISP) developer community, which works to enhance the company’s overall secure PMR technology offering. Airbus Defence and Space is planning to continue expanding the number of partners and applications for its devices.
