FirstNet cell site constructed in Massachusetts

FirstNet has added a new cell site in Monterey, Massachusetts, as part of a network expansion taking place across the state.

According to a statement released by the FirstNet Authority, the site was constructed following “direct feedback” from state and public safety officials. It was built by AT&T.

Speaking of the deployment, FirstNet Authority acting CEO Ed Parkinson said: “We worked hand-in-hand with Massachusetts’ public safety community to understand their needs for the network. And this cell site is a prime example of how that input and feedback is becoming reality. We look forward to supporting Massachusetts’ first responders’ use of FirstNet to help them save lives and protect communities.”

Monterey selectman Steven Weisz said: “Monterey is a rural town with a large senior citizen population. AT&T’s commitment to enhanced cellular telecommunications is not just a convenience, it is a lifeline for us.”

The Monterey site is the first to be publicly announced in the state since Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker signed-off on the roll-out.
