The Madrid Metro has awarded a contract under public tender to Teltronic, a subsidiary of Hytera, to supply it with additional TETRA onboard radio equipment. The contract award builds on a long-term relationship between the two organisations that began in 2003.
The latest tranche of 78 RTP-600 onboard units, with railway certification, will be integrated in the 2000, 7000, and 8000 1ª trains, to allow communication between drivers, control room staff and passengers via a connection with existing public address and intercom systems.
The Madrid Metro is the seventh longest in the world, with 301 stations spanning 13 lines and 293km of track. The network is administered by Metro de Madrid and its responsibilities include maintaining existing infrastructure while optimising technology to improve the customer experience. The Teltronic RTP-600 onboard solutions were chosen for their proven voice and data capability, together with their ease of implementation into such a large network.
