According to the company, fleet vehicles operating on the rail system will be equipped with Sepura SRG3900 and STP9000 mobile radios, enabling both voice and data. Asset tracking will be carried out by an onboard automatic vehicle location (AVL) solution.
An initial 13-kilometre section of the new line is already operational, located between Port Luis and Rose Hill on the island. The second phase to Curepipe will be completed in 2021. In its early stages, the service is expected to move around 25,000 passengers a day.
Speaking of the deployment, Devdarsh Jain, chief operations officer of Consort Digital said: “The Metro operators required robust radios that could withstand harsh treatment around maintenance machinery, and would be heavily used by station operators and cleaning teams. We had no hesitation in proposing a Sepura solution for this purpose and as expected they are providing outstanding support.”

Consort Digital also worked with infrastructure supplier DAMM on the roll-out.
