Finland and Norway have announced plans to sign a letter of intent, connecting their respective national shared authority networks using a TETRA inter-system interface (ISI). The signing will take place on 8 February at CCE in Copenhagen.
The letter will be between the Finnish Erillisverkot (otherwise known as the State Security Networks Group) and the Directorate of Emergency Communication in Norway. The agreement expands cross-border co-operation in the region, following the first TETRA ISI, established between Norway and Sweden in 2016.
Jarmo Vinkvist, CEO Suomen Virveverkko Oy, State Security Networks Group said: “Seamless cooperation between agencies is a key success factor of our VIRVE network. With the ISI connection, the same benefit can be extended to daily operations with Norwegian authority colleagues regardless of the national borders. This letter of intent underlines our joint Nordic values.”
Tor Helge Lyngstøl, director, Directorate for Emergency Communication said: “In today’s world, civil protection cannot be considered in a national perspective only. DNK is proud to extend the successful partnership we have with Sweden to our Finnish neighbours.”
Norway and Finland share 736 km of common border in Lapland, which is the largest and northernmost region of the latter.
