According to the company, the initiative has been prompted by the increasing use of drones to deliver contraband into correctional facilities, such as drugs, cellphones and weapons.
A spokesperson for the company said: “The [drone detection] technology is new and emerging, and will continue to get better as trials identify strengths and weaknesses in the current solutions. Securus personnel have worked hand in hand with a variety of technology partners to identify what is required to engineer, install and implement drone detection pilot programs.
“We work together with corrections officials who share a dedicated mission to deter drone delivery of dangerous contraband. So far the results are outstanding. These trials have already identified new tactics and methods and it will only get better.”
Securus’ drone detection technology uses a digital-antennae structure (DAS) similar to that of its Wireless Containment Solution.
