The South African Stellenbosch Municipality, located in the Western Cape province, has equipped its police and firefighters with Airbus Defence and Space's TETRA P8GR pagers and TH1n, THR9 Ex and THR880i radio terminals.
The deployment aims to cover communications happen over an area of 830 square kilometres and will cover an area of 830 square kilometres. Stellenbosch’s administration has chosen different TETRA terminals for each public safety service. Fire brigades will use the P8GR and THR9 Ex, the traffic police will implement the TH1n and cleaning departments will use the THR880i.
The P8GR paging device has been designed to meet the needs of fire brigades, relief organisations and also critical infrastructure operators. In contrast to standard analogue paging devices, this pager enables secure two-way communication between the control centre and operational units. It features include alerting and group calls.
Airbus Defence and Space claim its slimline TETRA radio TH1n is the thinnest and lightest Tetra terminal in the world and states its THR9 Ex terminal is robust and serves in explosion-prone environments, offering protection against physical and environmental exposure.
