The TETRA + Critical Communications Association (TCCA) has published its strategy for the 2016-2020 period, which will focus on working to become the "go to choice" for advice on best practice and solutions within the critical communications market. At the same time, the TCCA will focus on TETRA for narrowband and wideband [TEDS] and 3GPP standardised mission critical LTE for broadband communications.
The strategy states that the TCCA "will become more directly relevant to the millions of end-users whose life or operations depend on mission critical communications", and says that the organisation will continue to focus on end to end services, solutions and interfaces for the mission critical industry.
Phil Kidner, TCCA CEO, said the TCCA “is committed to global standards” and will continue to promote and support development with the 3GPP, CEPT and the EU. The association has yet to confirm its events this year in Asia and South America for the autumn. Details will appear on the association's website in “the next couple of days,” said Kidner.
He added that the TCCA will continue to promote the TETRA standard alongside LTE and will keep it “up to date with user requirements” as both technologies continue to develop as an important part of critical communications. Kidner also reported that the European Telecommunications Standards Institute is currently working with the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), the US standards organisation, to investigate how P25 and LTE and also TETRA and LTE will work together as “the issues are the same with both technologies”.
Nominations are currently being put forward electronically and the election of board members will be discussed at Annual General meeting of the TETRA MoU Association (currently trading as the TCCA). It will take place at 4.00 pm local time on 1 June 2016 during the Critical Communications World incorporating TETRA World Congress at RAI Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Kidner confirmed that Hans Borgonjen, the TCCA's vice chairman, who represents National Police Netherlands and one of the TCCA's founding members, will retire in June.
