Algoritmos, Procesos y Diseños, S.A., (APD S.A.), a Spanish engineering company, has said that its work on behalf of COBRA International to develop and implement a TETRA network and four new Control and Command Centres (C4i) in Venezuela is scheduled for completion in late September this year.
Announced by Hytera Mobilfunk GmbH back in August 2014, the project is currently in full execution mode with APD S.A technicians in the field. Both the TETRA network deployment and the development and implementation of the centres are running in parallel.
The network and command centres will be used by Venezuela’s Ministry of Interior. An extension of the project was awarded a few months ago to provide greater coverage to certain areas of the country. The contract expansion has resulted in the supply of additional base stations, together with more terminal licences and a new command centre.

The supplied TETRA infrastructure consists of 82 DIB-R5 base stations distributed throughout Venezuela's major cities, which will complement the coverage provided by the Venezuelan government’s current communications network. This will be complemented by more than 4,500 new Hytera PT580H handheld and MT680 TETRA mobile radios.
Aside from management and dispatch of the TETRA infrastructure, the C4i command centres will serve as communications gateways between the current TETRA network and the new infrastructure. At the same time, they will facilitate the integration of both networks and as well as other PMR communication networks from different public safety organisations. The command centres are located in different geographical sites inside Venezuelan territory, offering a fully decentralised and distributed system.
Each centre will be equipped with a complete voice and data communications system, along with an emergency information & dispatch module and complemented with geographical tools to track persons and vehicles (AVL).
