Cradlepoint expands cybersecurity portfolio

Cradlepoint has acquired Ericom Software, which has developed what the company calls an “advanced cloud-based security platform.”

According to a statement, the acquisition is a “strategic step towards solidifying Cradlepoint's SASE, zero trust, and cloud-based security offerings for hybrid 5G and wireline environments.”

The integration of Ericom's zero trust and cloud-based security solutions – says the statement - will be the foundation for Cradlepoint's new NetCloud ‘Threat Defense’ cloud service. Ericom provides integrated security controls, including secure web gateway, remote browser isolation, cloud access security broker, and zero-trust network access.

Speaking of the move, Moor Insights and Strategy vice president, Will Townsend, said: "Networking and security are rapidly merging within enterprise, and the cloud is increasingly leveraged as the preferred SASE delivery mechanism.

“Cradlepoint's acquisition of Ericom and its zero trust security capabilities should position the company well to capitalise, especially in organisations considering a 5G-centric deployment approach."

CEO of Ericom, David Canellos, said: "The combination of Cradlepoint’s expertise in enterprise networking and Ericom’s innovative SSE and zero trust security solutions will create a powerful capability to meet the increasing demand for cloud-based secure network solutions.

“The acquisition enhances our ability to meet the cybersecurity needs of global enterprises as they accelerate their rapid adoption of 5G technologies. We look forward to this exciting new chapter and its opportunities."
