PCTEL premieres 5G and GNSS vertically stacked antennas

Antenna and wireless technology specialist PCTEL has announced the launch of what it claims is the most advanced 5G and GNSS vertically stacked antenna.

The new VerStack antenna platform uses PCTEL’s broadband element technology to provide radio frequency (RF) performance with Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The platform offers multiband coverage spanning cellular, GSM, PCS and WiFi combined with antennas designed in a rugged UV-resistant fibreglass housing. PCTEL said the stacked antenna platform is ideal for use in harsh environmental conditions.

Commenting on the potential for the new antennas to be used in the rail sector, Denis Dmitruk, PCTEL’s technical manager, said: “Enabling mission critical connectivity is key for our customers in the rail market.

“The VerStack antenna platform allows secure and reliable communication exchanges between trains and wayside locations resulting in detection and prevention of safety-critical conditions, advance warning to locomotive engineers to take corrective actions, and monitoring and diagnosis necessary for proactive maintenance.”

PCTEL’s precision antennas are deployed in small cells, enterprise Wi-Fi access points, fleet management and transit systems, and equipment for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
