From March 2 to 13, the International Biathlon Union (IBU), which is organising the competition, has to coordinate many helping hands, such as doctors, drivers, security staff and the jury to ensure a smooth course of action. This makes a reliable and resilient professional mobile radio communication network indispensable.

The IBU’s personnel are using 260 Airbus DS THR9i and THR880i TETRA handsets, as well as 26 base stations and several RCS9500 TETRA dispatching consoles.

“We appreciate that Airbus Defence and Space contributes to our significant tournament. The organising committee relies on a radio communication infrastructure that had stood the test of time at other large sports events”, said Erik Trosby, chief of communications at Oslo2016, the local organising committee.

It expects thousands of visitors at the Holmenkollen site in Oslo. Airbus Defence and Space successfully supported the Nordic Ski World Cup in Falun, Sweden in 2015 with similar communication services.

Besides TETRA radios and accessories, the Airbus Defence and Space DXT3c switch is used in Oslo. It has in-built redundancy and offers high availability of radio network capacity.
