The SC20 – Sepura’s flagship series of hand-portable radios – has been approved for use on Airwave, the UK emergency services network.
The series’ high-speed second data-bearer option places the SC20 range in a position to provide features that have not been available to UK police on legacy TETRA devices. This includes over-the-air programming by Wi-Fi, control of a body-worn camera, or tethering to a smartphone or tablet device by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The SC20 supports narrowband data applications, has an extended range of coverage and is submersible, waterproof, salt-resistant and dustproof – with IP66, IP67 and IP68 environmental protection ratings.
Sepura’s water-porting technology and 2W of audio output ensures communications in harsh conditions and allows the device to be rinsed in running water. Sepura’s STP, SRH and SRC radio hand-portable models have been supplied to UK Police Forces since 2002.
“Class 3 high-power RF transmission, coupled with exceptional receive sensitivity, gives the SC20 series extended operational range, stretching coverage into areas and buildings where it was not possible before,” commented Mark Barnby, Sepura’s Head of Product Management for Devices.
“The SC20 series will drive efficiency and enhance the experience and evolving communications requirements of the UK’s public safety users during the transition to ESN,” said Gary Maughan, Sepura’s Regional Director UK&I.
