Tata Steel has chosen Sepura, in conjunction with Dutch distributor Abiom, to provide a complete TETRA communications solution for its flagship site in the Netherlands.
The IJmuiden steel plant is Tata Steel’s largest, spanning 7.5 square kilometres and producing up to seven million metric tonnes per annum.
The TETRA network consists of five base stations – providing site-wide coverage, fail safe operation and redundancy – control room solutions and around 900 hand-portable and mobile radios, including STP8X intrinsically safe hand-portable radios.
The network is already fully operational and uses specialist solutions for communication between vehicles, locomotives, cranes and emergency rooms.
